The Art Department at GCC recognizes the inherent power of the visual image as a critical reflection of our culture and that fine art encompasses all media and forms of creative expression. Our programs embody this philosophy and provide our students with a strong visual arts foundation combining the traditions of the past with a contemporary arts practice.
Throughout their time at GCC, art students build on this foundation through the exploration of specific media of their own choosing. Our program provides concentrations in photography, video, painting and drawing, and computer arts, and promotes the development of portfolios within these disciplines.
Upon graduation our students transfer to some of the finest art schools and colleges across the country: School of the Art Institute of Chicago, San Francisco Art Institute, School of Visual Arts in New York, School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The Art Institute of Boston, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Rhode Island School of Design, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, Hartford Art School, Rochester Institute of Technology, Yale University, and Smith College.
Our Associate in Science Degree program in Visual Arts is comparable to the first two years of study in the visual arts at regional and national art schools and colleges; our Digital Media certificate program provides students with a strong foundation in art applications for digital media, such as imaging, sound, video, computer graphics, animation, and web site design.
